Critical Reflection Question 2

Question: How does your product challenge conventions?

My magazine, Zonfrilli, engages audiences by exposing and promoting new, thought-provoking pieces of fashion and art. People usually remember things that are so ‘out-there’ or wild rather than pieces such as Starry Night. Think back to the 2010 MTV Music Awards; everyone remembers Lady Gaga’s still-infamous meat dress, even eleven years after the fact. Her fashion statement left a mark on the minds of all those who watched--even those who didn’t ‘get’ her message about governmental restrictions on the rights of gay military members at the time, they still remember her and the meat dress. Usually people remember things that scare them or that are just so unique that it’s impossible to truly forget. Zonfrilli aims to engage audiences using this ideology by utilizing known conventional fashion standards and by fostering eccentric pieces of fashion that shock and frighten audiences.

I believe the best way for Zonfrilli to be distributed would be through a multitude of mediums. A physical magazine to have in stores across the world would provide direct contact with consumers looking to purchase items of a similar category, and would also give the reader something to display as a decorative item within their house. An online magazine would also be a viable option, as most if not all famous magazines have an online version. This online version would give greater accessibility to those who can’t physically leave their homes, and could also provide accessibility otherwise unavailable to those who are hearing-impaired or do not speak English or Italian. The online version could be translated into multiple languages, and distributed through a website or online retailer. I believe that while both options are very good, online magazines would be best for an underground fashion magazine like Zonfrilli to connect to the most possible people.
